I've been putting in lots of time practicing and am finally breaking into some new territory that I haven't seen before. Doesn't mean I'm the first to do these, but here goes an explanation. It's great that these all flow very naturally into each other.
I start out with a burning hand which is a toss where you catch the poi head, not the handle. This easily flows into a gravity check, quickly followed by a ground stall. A variation on this involves flowing from a gravity check into an ouch, my face!.

Thu, August 13, 2009 - 10:02 AMI don't like arbitrary, non-descriptive names for moves. I avoid naming complex moves at all when possible.

Fri, August 14, 2009 - 6:47 AMwait, wait. This is a joke! I didn't catch it the first time either, it's been a while since I played hacky sack. Toss > catch the wrong end (burning hand) > drop (gravity check) > poi on the ground (ground stall). -

Guys, sometimes we take ourselves way to seriously... -

Fri, August 14, 2009 - 2:42 PMits not that we take ourselves too seriously, we just didnt understand.
we would have gotten it if the whole thing was explained in relation to timing and direction

Re: new move roundup!
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 6:17 PMi dunno... i think as poi spinners we do take ourselves a little too seriously. i mean im as guilty of it as anyone and its not a criticism. more of an observation. it was recently pointed out to me that, while a hooper calls themselves a hooper or a staver a staver. i refer to myself as a 'poi artist'. i felt like kind of an asshole when it was put right in front of me like that but thats sitll would i would call myself. its more a testament as to how seriously I take it, not as how seriously i believe it should be taken by everyone. also 'poier' comes out a little awkward and 'poiist' sounds like some kind of term for a bigot. -

Fri, August 14, 2009 - 7:25 PMbro daniel,
I'm a fire spinner, dancer, artist, savant, and some have called me master or god. others have called me sloppy, cocky, pretentious, wreckless, etc. I think it comes to how you think of yourself. this can be an artform, utilizing creativity to create concepts and titilate the imagination of others, we bring beauty for all the world to observe. so don't be hard on yourself for thinking your an artist of poi.
I'm just me though, and sometimes i'm a poi artist, sometimes i'm a cocky fucker, sometimes i'm sloppy looking and every now and then when the flow is right, i hit all my moves perfectly and i make the right eye contact with the audience i felt like a master ;)

Fri, August 14, 2009 - 7:20 PMi think dyami is in the club now ;)
eventually everyone will realize everything is possible and all these terms are limiting boxes. but until then, misunderstanding words on an internet forum does help out creativity.
cuz really, i dont know wtf is going on anymore. -

Re: new move roundup!
Sun, August 16, 2009 - 11:45 AMWe create limiting boxes first, so that we may have something out of which to break, to go beyond. Limits and boundaries can be very useful, so long as they are used to help us grow. When they become the focus, they lose their usefulness. =)

Re: new move roundup!
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 7:28 PMThe ouch is one of my favorite moves.
lately i've been doing alot of multi staff contact shirtless ouches. they're really good for going into moves like turning on the opposite sex and audience putting green paper in your hat. the only thing is an aluminum staff ouch turns out to be a 2 week long ouch that can interfere with practice.
